Short peptic strictures and Schatzki rings dilate with a TTS balloon or a bougie. Complex, long, and caustic disease needs a wire. That argument, the size target, and the stop rule live on one permalink. This leftover WordPress stub only points there.

Original GastroScholar summary card for routine esophageal stricture. Not an endoscopic photograph.
Original GastroScholar summary card. Not an endoscopic photograph. This URL is a map onto the dilation page. It does not invent mucosa.

Clinical Pearls

  1. Simple peptic and Schatzki: balloon or bougie. Complex: wire and fluoro.
  2. Rule of 3 after bougie resistance. Target about 15 mm for solids.
  3. PPI after peptic dilation. Steroid injection is for selected refractory rings.
  4. Technique, citations, and what this is not: esophageal dilation.

Routine Peptic Stricture: Use the Dilation Page, Not This Leftover URL

This URL is the map. Simple peptic dilation, the rule of 3, and complex-wire technique already have a working permalink.

Clinical Bottom Line

URL What it is for
/esophageal-dilation-a-comprehensive-guide-to-treating-esophageal-strictures/ Canonical dilation page. ASGE 2014 (PMID 24332405). Sami 2018 (PMID 29478034). Balloon versus bougie, rule of 3, 15 mm target.
/can-endoscopy-detect-gerd-unraveling-the-truth-about-this-diagnostic-tool/ Whether EGD diagnoses GERD. LA B-D, Barrett, peptic stricture. Not a dilation tutorial.
/effective-colonoscopy-technique-for-stricture-dilation/ Malignant colon obstruction is SEMS, not a balloon. Different organ.

What does this URL actually say?

CRE balloon for short peptic rings. Savary for long fibrotic ones. That is the whole stub, plus language this site will not keep. The working article is longer, cited, and already live. Expanding this slug into a second dilation review would compete with it.

Sami 2018 and ASGE 2014 are why the default is 'dilate simple benign disease, wire the complex ones, stop after the rule of 3.' Read them on the dilation page.

WordPress shipped a short balloon-versus-Savary stub here in 2024. Search still hits it. Pointing is the honest use of an existing address. Do not 301 the broader dilation URL onto this older stub.
